Butter and margarine oil is essential in any kitchen. Swapping them out for olive oil or infused oil, however, is essential for great health. Olive oil is essential to feed the body heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. It is also essential to receive antioxidants, polyphenols, and vitamins. Because so, it is essential to any healthy diet.
Marta Guasch-Ferre, a research scientist in the nutrition department at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health, addressed this issue in a recent study. She said, “We need to pay attention to overall diet quality and lifestyle, and consistent with our results, the key would be to add olive oil into the diet as a substitution of other unhealthier fats. One may speculate that mechanisms related to the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of olive oil may have played a role in these findings.”
In the study, researchers used data from the Nurses’ Health Study and the Health Professionals Follow-Up Study who were free of heart disease and cancer when the study began in 1990. It involved data from over 90,000 individuals who were followed for 28 years. Every four years, individuals who participated in the study were asked how often they ate certain foods and fats. These included margarine, butter, mayonnaise, dairy fat, and olive oil.
When compared with people who never consumed olive oil, those who consumed more than half a tablespoon a day had significantly different results. They had a 19% lower risk of dying from heart disease and a 17% lower risk of dying from cancer. Additionally, they also have a 29% lower risk of dying from a neurodegenerative disease, and an 18% lower risk of dying from lung disease.
Because so, it was found that doing simple actions like using olive oil is linked to a longer life span.
